Lennox Head sits just south of Byron Bay, a coastal village with a famous point break, a long beach and a lake behind the dunes. It is also one of the furthest places we drive to Brisbane Airport on a regular basis. When the run is more than two hours, the details matter: when you leave, where you pause, and how comfortable everyone is when they step out at the terminal.
Why Lennox Head is a different kind of airport run
Most airport transfers on the Gold Coast are an hour or so. Lennox Head to Brisbane Airport is roughly double that. At around 195 to 200 km, it sits at the long end of the Northern Rivers runs we do regularly, alongside Ballina just down the road.
That changes the planning. On a short transfer, a ten-minute delay is barely noticeable. On a two-hour-plus drive, small things compound: a late start, a slow patch on the M1, a stop that runs long. The answer is not to rush. It is to plan the day properly from the start, which is what this guide is about.
It also changes what people want from the car. On a long run, passengers care less about speed and more about a quiet cabin, enough room for their legs and bags, and a chauffeur who knows where a sensible break sits on the route. We cover those in staying comfortable and planning a break further down. You can also see the full range of chauffeur services we offer across the region.
If you are comparing Lennox Head with other towns in the region, our Northern Rivers to Brisbane Airport guide sets out every town side by side.
The route north, stage by stage
The journey has a clear shape. Knowing it helps you picture where the time goes.
- Lennox Head to the Pacific Highway. Your chauffeur leaves the village and heads inland a short way to join the Pacific Highway northbound.
- Past Byron Bay and Brunswick Heads. The highway runs north past the Byron turn-off, Bangalow and Brunswick Heads. It is a good, divided road for most of this stretch.
- The Tweed and the border. Near Tweed Heads you cross into Queensland. If it is daylight saving season, the clock effectively goes back an hour here.
- The M1 through the Gold Coast. The highway becomes the M1 Pacific Motorway and runs the length of the Gold Coast, then on through Logan.
- The Gateway Motorway to the airport. The final leg leaves the M1 for the Gateway Motorway, which has tolled sections, and runs north to the terminals.
In clear conditions, the whole thing typically takes about two hours and fifteen minutes. The most variable part is the M1 between the Gold Coast and Brisbane, which we cover in timing your pickup below.
Timing your pickup across two time zones
This is the part that catches people out. Lennox Head is in New South Wales, which observes daylight saving from early October to early April. Brisbane does not. For around half the year, your pickup happens in one time zone and your flight leaves in another.
A simple way to plan it:
- Take your flight departure time, which will be in Queensland time.
- Work back to when you want to be at the terminal, based on your airline's advice for check-in and bag drop.
- Subtract the drive (allow around 2 h 15 min) and a buffer for traffic and any stop.
- If it is daylight saving season, add one hour to convert that Queensland time into the NSW time on your clock in Lennox Head.
When you book, give us your flight number and departure time as shown on your booking. We track flight details and will confirm your pickup in Lennox Head local time, so nobody has to do the conversion in their head at the front door.
Outside daylight saving, from April to October, both sides of the border share the same clock and the conversion step falls away. The drive, of course, stays the same.

Staying comfortable on a two-hour-plus drive
Two hours in a car is a different experience depending on how you spend it. With a private chauffeur, no one in your group is driving, watching the mirrors or worrying about the turn-off. That alone takes most of the strain out of the trip.
A few simple habits make the rest easy:
- Dress for the cabin, not the beach. Layers work well. The morning in Lennox Head may be cool, and the terminal at the other end is air-conditioned.
- Keep a small bag at your feet. Water, snacks, a phone charger and anything you want for the flight. Big suitcases go in the back and stay there.
- Use the time. Many passengers answer emails, sleep or simply watch the coast go by. If you need quiet for a call, tell your chauffeur.
- Tell us about travel sickness. If anyone in your group feels unwell on long drives, mention it. A front seat or an extra stop can help.
- Think about children. Younger travellers do better with something to do and a planned break. Child seats are available on request.
If your flight is mid-morning or later, a slightly earlier pickup with a relaxed coffee stop often feels better than a later pickup with no margin. You arrive at the terminal in the same place, but calmer.
Planning a break on the way
On shorter airport runs, most people go straight through. From Lennox Head, a pause is common, especially for families and older travellers. The trick is to choose it when you book, so it is part of the plan rather than a detour.
The table below shows the kinds of breaks passengers ask for and how much time to allow. These are planning allowances, not guarantees; the right choice depends on your flight and your group.
| Type of break | Allow roughly | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| No stop, straight through | No extra time | Early flights, light travellers, business trips |
| Quick comfort stop | 10–15 minutes | Most families and older passengers |
| Coffee or breakfast stop | 20–30 minutes | Mid-morning or afternoon flights with time in hand |
| Drop-off or pickup on the way | Depends on the address | Collecting a friend or returning keys on the route |
A stop on the Gold Coast side tends to work well because it breaks the drive roughly in half. Your chauffeur will suggest somewhere practical, close to the highway, so it does not add unnecessary kilometres.
Choosing a vehicle for the distance
On a long run, space matters more. A vehicle that feels fine for twenty minutes can feel cramped after two hours, especially with bags at people's feet.
Executive Audi Sedan
The sedan seats up to three passengers with standard luggage. It suits couples, solo travellers and business guests heading home after a stay on the coast. Quiet, smooth and well suited to a long motorway drive.
Executive Mercedes V-Class
The van seats up to seven and has room for the gear that Lennox Head holidays tend to involve: surfboards, prams, beach chairs and extra bags. Passengers have more space to stretch out, which matters on a two-hour-plus run. It is the natural choice for families and groups.
You can compare both in our fleet section. If you are unsure, get an instant quote and mention your luggage; we will point you to the right vehicle.
Should you fly from Ballina instead?
It is a fair question. Ballina Byron Gateway Airport is only a short drive from Lennox Head, far closer than Brisbane. If it serves your destination and your timing, it can be the simpler option.
Plenty of travellers still choose Brisbane, often for its wider range of routes, international connections or a fare that suits them better. Others land in one airport and leave from another. There is no single right answer, and we are happy to drive to whichever works. For a closer look at the Ballina side of the coast, see our Ballina to Brisbane Airport transfer guide, and for flights from the border airport, our Byron Bay to Gold Coast Airport guide covers that shorter run.
If you are staying a little further north, our guides to Byron Bay to Brisbane Airport and Bangalow to Brisbane Airport cover those pickups in detail.
Arriving in Lennox Head: the reverse trip
Many passengers book both directions together. Arriving at Brisbane Airport after a flight and then facing a two-hour-plus drive is exactly when a chauffeur is most welcome. We track your flight details, so if you land early or late, your pickup moves with you.
Coming south, the same time zone rule applies in reverse. If you land at 3 pm Queensland time in summer and drive for around two and a quarter hours, you will reach Lennox Head well after 6 pm on the local clock. Bear that in mind for check-in times and dinner plans. Our Brisbane Airport to Byron Bay transfer guide walks through the southbound arrival in more detail, and the original Brisbane to Byron Bay guide covers scenic stops if you are not in a hurry.
Holiday homes around Lennox Head can sit on quieter streets or up private driveways. Include the full address and any access notes when you book, and your chauffeur will take you to the door.

Not flying from Brisbane at all? Our Gold Coast Airport to Byron Bay guide compares the border airport for Northern Rivers trips, and our service areas page shows the full reach of our cross-border QLD to NSW work. If your stay included a cruise departure, see our Brisbane cruise terminal transfers guide, as the terminal sits close to the airport. The longest run does not need to feel long. With a clear plan, a sensible buffer and someone else driving, Lennox Head to Brisbane Airport becomes a quiet couple of hours between the beach and your flight.
